Friends of the Lubicon Alberta

News Update:

Documentary - filming complete!!!

Amnesty International and FOLA members have made a documentary of the Lubicon to be released internationally this fall. It focusses on the processes of the extractive industry in the area and the relationship of oil companies with the Lubicon. The film will be part of a global campaign on the link between discrimination and impoverishment. FOLA is colaborating with Amnesty on the project and on plans for its release.

JHR (Journalists for Human Rights)

Are you passionate about human rights and social justice issues? Ever thought of pairing that passion with writing or photography?

The U of A's Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is seeking volunteer writers, photographers, and artists for our human rights publication - Speak News, an electronic newsletter sent out four times a year. Speak News is part of a growing grassroots media movement aiming to cover those stories and viewpoints that often go under-reported in the mainstream media. Speak News aims to cover human rights and social justice news stories occurring at the local, national and international levels, in addition to presenting alternative opinions on these issues.

An evening of intense poetry, politics and discussion
Second Tuesday of every month (Sept to April)

Free admission and an open mic to follow for new poets.
